A University of the West of England (abbrev. UWE, typically pronounced "you-we") occurs as university based in the English city of Bristol. Its independent campus is at Frenchay, about 5km north of the city centre by using the little campus at St Matthias, a nursing school at Glenside in north-north-east Bristol & an Art school, Bower Ashton college, near Ashton Court in south-west Bristol.

A Hartpury Campus rugger team, which has extensive sporting facilities in-hand, has experienced national profits.

A student magazine, Westworld, is published each month & a newspaper, American Eye, every two weeks. the student radio statiin, A Hub, is depending in The Rackhay in the centre of Bristol & broadcasts twenty 4 hours a day on the schminternet & on 1449AM through Bristol. It was began within September 2004.

History
UWE was founded within 1970 as Bristol Polytechnic, but might trace its roots back to the foundation of the '''Merchant Venturers' Navigation School''' in 1595; part of this institution (to which a Universities of Bristol & Bath also partly owe their origins) became a technical indicator college which, when merger by owning various more colleges, successively became the engineering school.
